Miami, FL (Sports Network) - Former world No. 1 American Lindsay Davenport was an easy second-round winner Saturday at the $3.77 million Sony Ericsson Open.
The 32nd-seeded three-time major titlist Davenport, playing in Miami for the first time in five years, drilled France's Camille Pin 6-2, 6-1 on Day 4 at Crandon Park.
Serbian Jelena Jankovic, the fourth seed, was tested by unheralded Sofia Arvidsson of Sweden, but the Australian Open semifinalist pulled out a dramatic 6-7 (7-9), 6-2, 7-6 (11-9) victory to advance.
Second-seeded Ana Ivanovic also cruised in her second round match, as the Serbian dispatched Emilie Loit of France 6-1, 6-2. The Australian and French Open runner-up Ivanovic was last week's champion at Indian Wells.
Fifth-seeded Russian Anna Chakvetadze charged past rising Austrian Tamira Paszek 6-3, 6-2, while seventh-seeded Slovakian Daniela Hantuchova handled Venezuelan Milagros Sequera 6-2, 6-1 and 10th-seeded Russian Elena Dementieva, a two-time Grand Slam runner-up, dropped Ukrainian Kateryna Bondarenko 6-0, 6-4.
An upset came when Russian Alisa Kleybanova cut down 12th-seeded Czech Nicole Vaidisova 6-4, 6-0. The struggling Vaidisova has now dropped three straight and four of her last five matches.
Thirteenth-seeded Russian Dinara Safina whipped Canadian qualifier Aleksandra Wozniak 6-2, 6-2, while Chinese Jie Zheng posted an upset by besting 14th- seeded Russian Nadia Petrova 2-1, as Petrova retired three games into the match due to a right quad strain.
Rising Slovakian Dominika Cibulkova drove out 20th-seeded Italian Francesca Schiavone 3-6, 6-4, 6-4, while 19th-seeded Russian Vera Zvonareva rallied to top countrywoman Ekaterina Bychkova 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 and 24th-seeded Amelie Mauresmo of France beat Shuai Peng of China 4-6, 6-2, 7-6 (7-2).
Other second-round wins came for 18th-seeded Austrian Sybille Bammer, Japanese veteran Ai Sugiyama, Czech Lucie Safarova and German Sabine Lisicki. Sugiyama upended 28th-seeded Spaniard Anabel Medina Garrigues 6-2, 6-3, while Safarova upset 31st-seeded Italian Karin Knapp 3-6, 7-5, 6-0.
The 2008 Miami champion will collect $590,000.
