Nash leads votes for all NBA first team

NEW YORK (CP-AP) _ Phoenix Suns guard Steve Nash was a unanimous selection to the all-NBA team while Toronto Raptors forward Chris Bosh earned second team honours Wednesday.

Nash's teammate Amare Stoudemire, Dallas forward Dirk Nowitzki, San Antonio forward Tim Duncan and Los Angeles Lakers guard Kobe Bryant, the league's leading scorer, rounded out the first team.

Nash received 129 first-place votes and 645 total points from the panel of 129 media members. The two-time defending NBA MVP from Victoria led the league in assists during the regular season with a career-high 11.6 per game. He became the first NBA player to average at least 18 points (18.6) and 11 assists since Magic Johnson in 1990-91.

Nash and Stoudemire are the first teammates to make the first team since Bryant and Shaquille O'Neal in 2003-04.

Bosh's selection to the all-NBA team marked the first of his career.

``This is truly a special honour for me,'' Bosh said in a statement. ``It shows that my hard work has paid dividends and that I was surrounded by great teammates.''

The 23-year-old joins former Raptor Vince Carter as the only Toronto players to receive the honour. Carter was named to the second team in 2001 and the third team in 2000.

Bosh helped lead the Raptors to 47 wins, tying their franchise best, their first Atlantic Division title and first playoff berth in five seasons. He led the team in scoring and rebounding with career bests of 22.6 points and 10.7 boards a night.

Joining Bosh on the second team was Cleveland's LeBron James, the top vote-getter for last year's all-NBA team, Washington's Gilbert Arenas, and Houston's Tracy McGrady and Yao Ming.

The third team was: Miami's Dwyane Wade, Detroit's Chauncey Billups, Minnesota's Kevin Garnett, Denver's Carmelo Anthony and Orlando's Dwight Howard.

The voting panel of writers and broadcasters in the United States and Canada voted for the three teams by position, with points awarded on a 5-3-1 basis.
