Medicine Hat's Darren Helm scored in the fourth round of the shootout to lift the Tigers to a 3-2 victory over the Seattle Thunderbirds in Western Hockey League action Saturday.
The Tigers scored three times in four tries in the shootout while winning goaltender Matt Keetley stopped two of Seattle's four shooters and finished with 26 saves.
Rookie Jan Eberle gave Seattle a 1-0 lead at 6:17 of the first period when he scored on the first shot of the game for either team.
Medicine Hat (10-3-0-0) tied it while on a 5-on-3 power at 9:21 when Derek Dorsett ranked in a rebound of Kris Russell's hard shot.
Seattle (3-3-0-4) regained the lead at 7:26 of the second period when Bud Holloway stole a pass and fed David Richard for his second goal of the season. The Tigers tied it with Dorsett's second goal of the game at 12:30.
Derek Yeomans stopped 39 shots in the loss.
