Wildcats edge Maineiacs 2 1 Hockey News

Matt Marquardt scored the lone goal of the shootout to give the Moncton Wildcats a 2-1 win over the Lewiston Maineiacs in the only QMJHL match on Thursday.

David Perron scored a power-play goal 17:05 into the first period for Lewiston (7-3-0-1).

Randy Cameron replied at 6:17 of the second for Moncton (8-5-0-1), which moved a point ahead of Cape Breton for first place in the East Division.

Wildcats goalie Jhase Sniderman made 37 saves in regulation and overtime, then stopped all three shots in the shootout.

Jonathan Bernier stopped 20 shots in a losing cause for Lewiston.

The Maineiacs scored once on five power-play chances while Moncton failed to convert on any of its four opportunities.
