Giroux gets five points as Olympiques down Drakkar Hockey News

Claude Giroux, Brett Morrison and Danick Bouchard could have won games on their own Sunday.

Giroux and Morrison led the Gatineau Olympiques to a 8-5 victory over the Baie-Comeau Drakkar in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action Sunday.

Giroux had two goals and three assists, cementing his spot atop the points board. The Hearst, Ont., native's tally rose to 27.

Brett Morrison registered five goals and one assist, giving him a total of 18 points.

Another notable performance was Danick Bouchard of the Shawinigan Cataractes. Bouchard had four goals and two assists, moving him into the top 10.

Elsewhere in QMJHL action Sunday, it was: Cape Breton 4, Saint John 1; Lewiston 4, Quebec 2; Rouyn-Noranda 6, Rimouski 4; and Shawinigan 8, Chicoutimi 2.

At Gatineau, Que., Jean-Philip Chabot scored the Olympiques' (11-1-0-1) other goal. The win maintained Gatineau's first place position in the league.

Pierre-Cedrick Labrie put away two for Baie-Comeau (9-3-0-1), who dropped to third in the west. Joakim Jensen, Olivier Donais and Marc-Andre Dorion accounted for the Drakkar's other goals.

Olivier Laliberte made 39 saves for the win. Michael Dupont allowed four goals on seven shots before being replaced at 13:33 in the first period. Marco Cousineau stopped 25 shots in relief.

Screaming Eagles 4, Sea Dogs 1

At Saint John, N.S., Scott Brannon scored twice to lead Cape Breton over the Sea Dogs.

Paul Alexander McIlveen and Chris Culligan also scored for the Screaming Eagles (8-6-0-0). Rookie Cam Fergus got one assist.

Jonathan Laberge got the lone goal for Saint John (4-6-1-1).

Maineiacs 4, Remparts 2

At Lewiston, Maine, Eric Castonguay put away two as the Maineiacs downed Quebec.

David Perron and Chad Denny had one each for Lewiston (7-3-0-0).

Brent Aubin and Roman Bashkirov scored for the Remparts (6-6-0-0).

Huskies 6, Oceanic 4

At Rouyn-Noranda, Que., Francois Champagne scored the game winning goal as the Huskies defeated the Oceanic.

Yannick Riendeau, Justin Munden, Hugo Carpentier, Guillaume Mailloux and Michael Dubuc added for Rouyn-Noranda (7-6-0-1).

Olivier Fortier, Michael Frolik, Maxime Gratchev and Kevin Cormier scored for Rimouski (1-8-3-0).

Cataractes 8, Sagueneens 2

At Shawinigan, Que., Danick Bouchard got four goals and two assists as the Cataractes trounced Chicoutimi.

Francis Pare added two, while Joshua Desmarais and Joshua Desmarais had one each for Shawinigan (9-2-0-3), who moved into second place in the west division.

Joel Champagne and Nicolas Blanchard scored for the Sagueneens (3-8-2-1).
