Mississauga downs Peterborough 9 1 Hockey News

Left winger Luca Caputi scored twice and added an assist as the Mississauga IceDogs rode a four-goal first-period outburst to a 9-1 victory over the Peterborough Petes Sunday afternoon in the Ontario Hockey League.

Caputi set up Jadran Beljo for his sixth goal of the season just over a minute into the first period and then scored his first goal of the contest 21 seconds later, chasing starter Trevor Cann from the Peterborough goal.

Caputi got his second goal of the game and fifth of the season six minutes later and defenceman Nathan Martine completed the first-period explosion with his second goal of the season at the 11-minute mark.

Forward Jordan Owens also scored twice for the IceDogs (7-1-0-1), raising his team-leading total to eight in nine games.

Rookies Barry Sanderson and Stevan Manojlovic and veteran Stefan Legein completed the Mississauga scoring with a goal each. It was the first goal of Manojlovic's OHL career.

Steve Downie broke Mississauga goaltender Lucas Lobsinger's bid for a shutout when he scored his fifth of the season during a power play early in the third period.

It was the first power-play goal the IceDogs have allowed on home ice this season and also ended Mississauga's consecutive penalty-killing streak at 37, dating back to Oct. 5 against Brampton.

Lobsinger faced only 19 shots on the afternoon as the Petes saw their record drop to 5-4-0-0. Cann was pulled after allowing two goals on three shots. He was replaced by Jason Missiaen, who handled 35 shots.
