England spinner Monty Panesar fails to impress in warmup match Cricket News

England spinner Monty Panesar struggled to justify a growing clamor for his Test call up when he took just two wickets for 63 runs in a limited overs cricket match between England A and an Australian Chairman's XI on Friday.

While Panesar performed unimpressively, Australia's newest Test recruit, Adam Voges, scored a classy 71 as the Australian selection beat its English rivals by seven wickets.

Voges was called into the Australian Test squad Friday after batsman Damien Martyn announced his immediate retirement.

Panesar conceded sixes from three straight overs in a performance that failed to support suggestions he might turn around England's fortunes in the Ashes series if called up for the third test starting Dec. 14 at Perth.

Australia leads the five-Test Ashes series 2-0 after winning the first Test by 277 runs and the second by six wickets.

Panesar had the small consolation Friday of dismissing the Chairman's XI's top-scorer, Luke Ronchi, for 89.
